The Internet Explorer Links Toolbar is Your Friend

The links toolbar from within Internet Explorer (IE) is just like and acts just like ‘Favorites’ — a set of convenient bookmarks

First of all, let’s check to make sure your ‘links’ toolbar is actually showing within IE. Open your browser and check for the word ‘Links’ somewhere around your normal toolbar (the one with ‘Back’, ‘Home’, ‘Search’, etc. on it). If you don’t see it, simply use your right mouse button and click on an empty spot within one of the toolbars; you will see a pop-up menu appear; make sure that a checkmark appears in front of the word ‘Links’. You now have a means of putting website shortcuts on this toolbar for quick and easy access.

Internet Explorer Address BarPersonally, I put sites I visit very often on this shortcut bar. For example, I use my net banking, Google and some user forums on a regular basis, so I have a shortcut to all of these sites on my links bar.

How to get your shortcuts on this bar?  Very easily …

Call up a website you would like to add. Now looking up at the ‘address’ bar — you know, where it reads something like “www.mrtech.ca” — you will see to the left a tiny icon resembling a blue ‘e’ on a white piece of paper. Left click on it, hold the click, drag it over to the ‘links’ bar and drop it there. Voila! You now have a shortcut on your links bar. Repeat for each site you want to add. Now, you may not see a blue ‘e’ anymore because now webmasters have the ability to add their own mini icons called ‘favicons’ to replace the blue ‘e’ with their own logo. This helps them brand their sites and will make it easier for you to find them in a long list of bookmarks / favorites. Either way, you will see a mini picture directly to the left of the http:// portion of the address bar and that’s what you will need to drag in order to create a shortcut.
